The Situation
A subtropical low moves southwards and deepens over the North Island today, while a weakening front over the Tasman Sea approaches Fiordland. Tomorrow, the low system moves southeast over central New Zealand.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland to Taranaki, also Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty, Taupo and Taumarunui
Rain with heavy falls spreading south this afternoon, then easing to showers in Northland and Auckland this evening and everywhere tomorrow morning. Thunderstorms possible north of Lake Taupo.
Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Taihape
Rain spreading south this afternoon and evening, clearing tomorrow morning. Isolated showers south of Wairoa tomorrow afternoon, possibly heavy.
Whanganui to Wellington, also Wairarapa
Cloud increasing, and rain spreading south this evening. Becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers tomorrow morning.
Buller to Westland, also Marlborough, Nelson and Canterbury
Cloud increasing. Rain developing tonight, easing to isolated showers tomorrow evening.
Otago, Southland and Fiordland
Mainly fine, but cloudy periods about eastern Otago. Partly cloudy with isolated showers tomorrow until evening.
Chatham Islands
Low cloud with patchy drizzle.

Friday
North Island: Showers becoming isolated in the afternoon. South Island: Rain developing in the west, with heavy falls possible. Mainly fine elsewhere, but rain developing later.
Saturday
North Island: Partly cloudy. A period of rain or showers moving northeast. Becoming fine after that. South Island: Rain in the west and south, easing to isolated showers. Scattered showers elsewhere, clearing by evening.
Sunday
North Island: Mainly fine. Isolated afternoon and evening showers. South Island: Fine apart from cloudy periods and isolated showers for Fiordland and Stewart Island.
And at the Chathams
Patchy drizzle turning to rain early Friday, clearing Friday night before brief rain Saturday afternoon. Fine on Sunday. Strong northeasterlies, easing and turning northwesterly on early Saturday, then changing westerly Saturday evening and dying out later Sunday.
