The Situation
A trough of low pressure affects northern parts of the North Island today and tomorrow, while a ridge of high pressure builds over the rest of New Zealand.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland, Auckland and Coromandel
Mostly cloudy with a few showers, some possibly heavy, clearing Auckland this afternoon.
Waikato to Taranaki, including Bay of Plenty, Taupo and Taumarunui
Partly cloudy, with areas of frosts overnight.
Gisborne and Hawke's Bay
Fine today, apart from isolated showers about Gisborne from late afternoon. Mostly cloudy with a few showers tomorrow.
Taihape and Whanganui to Horowhenua Kapiti Coast
Fine with some frosts returning tonight.
Wellington, Wairarapa and Marlborough
Fine today. Cloudy areas with a few showers tomorrow.
Nelson to Westland, also Canterbury and Otago
Areas of low cloud or fog about some inland valleys. Otherwise mainly fine. Frosts returning again tonight.
Fiordland and Southland
Partly cloudy, with isolated showers about the coast, clearing tomorrow morning. Frosts inland tonight.
Chatham Islands
Mostly cloudy. The odd light shower, especially tomorrow afternoon.

Tuesday
North Island: Showers in the east and north, both easing. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Fine, apart from isolated showers about Fiordland and also coastal Marlborough.
Wednesday
North Island: Fine, apart from isolated showers in Gisborne. South Island: Fine, apart from isolated showers about Fiordland.
Thursday
North Island: isolated showers developing, turning to rain in the west with some heavy falls later. South Island: Rain developing in the west with some heavy falls possible. Isolated showers elsewhere.
Friday
North Island: Rain or showers, easing to a few showers and becoming confined to the west. South Island: rain or showers in the west and south. Mainly fine elsewhere.
And at the Chathams
Cloudy periods with the odd shower, turning to rain for a time on Friday. Southeasterlies, dying out later Tuesday. Southwesterlies developing early Thursday, changing strong northerly early Friday.
