Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Monday

The Situation

A large high covers most of New Zealand today and tomorrow, while a front moves slowly northwards over Fiordland and far southern Westland tomorrow.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

In the west from Northland to Manawatu, including Coromandel Peninsula and Taumarunui

Mainly fine today. Cloudy periods tomorrow with isolated afternoon showers about Waitomo and Taranaki, then becoming fine from Auckland south.

Bay of Plenty, Taupo, Taihape, and Gisborne, to Wairarapa

Areas of morning cloud, otherwise fine.

Horowhenua Kapiti Coast and Wellington

Mostly cloudy.

Nelson, Buller, Marlborough, Canterbury

Fine apart from patchy morning cloud, and some cloud about Buller tomorrow evening.

Westland

Partly cloudy with the odd shower from this evening. Longer fine spells this afternoon. Rain south of Haast tomorrow, heavy at times.

Otago and Southland

Mainly fine today. Scattered rain spreading north from tomorrow morning.

Fiordland

Cloudy. A few showers, turning to rain overnight, with heavy falls, easing tomorrow evening.

Chatham Islands

Cloud breaking up and becoming fine tomorrow.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Saturday

North Island: Isolated showers in the south and west. Fine elsewhere. South Island: Rain in southern Westland, with heavy falls. Fine in Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury. A few showers elsewhere.

Sunday

North Island: Partly cloudy, with isolated showers until evening. South Island: Occasional rain spreading north to Westland and Christchurch. Isolated showers further north.

Monday

North Island: Isolated showers, more frequent from Hawke's Bay to Wellington from afternoon. South Island: Occasional rain spreading north. Becoming fine about Southland and Otago later.

And at the Chathams

Mainly fine on the weekend, with a few cloudy periods, and northerly winds. Cloud increasing on Monday with a few showers from afternoon. Winds turning strong southerly at night.
