Watch: Parliament debates Te Pāti Māori MPs' punishment for Treaty Principles haka

6:52 pm today

The debate on the Privileges Committee's report into the actions of three Te Pāti Māori MPs, including its recommended sanctions, has been adjourned until after the Budget.

Leader of the House Chris Bishop moved that the debate be adjourned until 5 June, to allow the MPs to participate in the debate on Thursday's Budget.

So far, only Committee Chair Judith Collins and Labour leader Chris Hipkins have spoken in the debate.

Opposition parties opposed the motion.

The Privileges Committee recommended suspending Te Pāti Māori co-leaders Rawiri Waititi and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer for 21 days.

MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, who started the haka but had since expressed contrition, faces a one-week suspension.
