Police are appealing for information after a person was injured in a hit and run in Wellington on Saturday night.

Senior constable Brett Main said a pedestrian was hit by a car at the intersection of Tory and Tennyson Streets in the central city about 6.30pm.

They were carried a short distance on the bonnet of the car, before falling onto the road on Tory Street, leaving them with minor injuries, he said.

The car, which did not stop, was described as a light blue hatchback, and would have damaged windscreen wipers as a result of the crash.

It was captured on CCTV, and police were using the footage to help their investigation.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, online or over the phone with the reference number P062293969.
