Key starts work on forming Government

10:12 am on 22 September 2014

Leader of the National Party John Key is starting to pull together his Government saying he wants to avoid “third term arrogance”, Radio New Zealand reports.

National won a convincing victory on Saturday night, delivering it a one seat majority in Parliament, but Key wants to shore up a more comfortable margin in the House.

Key says cabinet positions are likely for United Future's Peter Dunne and the Maori Party's Te Ururoa Flavell, as long-time Government partners.

Any post for David Seymour of ACT is uncertain given his inexperience.

Key has not ruled out working with Winston Peters, though he suspects Peters might rebuff such an offer in favour of working to make New Zealand First Parliament's main opposition party.
