Despite leading 31-7 at halftime, the Crusaders were made to work hard in Sydney before finally overcoming the Waratahs 48-33. The win moves them to the top spot in Super Rugby Pacific, although the Brumbies could take that off them with a win tomorrow night against the Reds.

The returning Johnny McNicholl showed that he wanted to make up for lost time with a try after only five minutes, which was quickly followed by one to Braydon Ennor. Ioane Moananu's try made it 19-0 and it looked for all money that the Waratahs were in for a long night.

Even though Langi Gleeson put them on the board after 23 minutes, Chay Fihaki and Cullen Grace crossed to give the visitors the big halftime lead.

Gleeson and Miles Amatosero drew the Tahs within 10 points after the break, but with the home side threatening an unthinkable comeback, Sevu Reece pushed the lead out of reach with a try in the 59th minute. Tom Christie added some insurance with another try in the 77th minute, which offset scores to Darby Lancaster and Triston Reilly.
