The Blues women have kicked off their Super Rugby Aupiki defence in dominant fashion.

Last year's champions have hammered Hurricanes Poua 50-10, running in seven tries in Wellington this afternoon.

The Blues took a 17-0 lead at halftime following tries to Black Ferns Ruahei Demant and Portia Woodman-Wickliffe, the latter the try of the match as the visitors went the length.

Braxton Sorenson-McGee kicked off the counter, streaking out of her own 22 and finding a flying Woodman-Wickliffe on her outside who gassed the cover to score a 90 metre screamer.

Demant bagged a second just after the break, crashing through two tacklers to score under the sticks and extend the lead.

The Poua supporters were given a glimmer courtesy of Isabell Waterman in the 61st minute.

But further tries to Grace Gargo and Sorensen-McGee had the game well and truly in the bag with 15 minutes still to play.

Silyia Brunt sealed the deal as again the Hurricanes defence was found wanting, the Black Ferns centre hammering the nail with a powerful burst over the chalk.

Another surging lineout drive by the Blues pack sent Gargo over for a second, Demant icing the cake to bring up the half century.

Right on the siren, prop Denise Aiolupotea picked up a final consolation for the thoroughly beaten home side.
