French website L'Equipe reported that the 33-year-old was trying to claim over $750,000 after the club terminated his contract just six months into a two-year deal in January.
L'Equipe claims Weepu's contract was torn up following an altercation with the head coach Johann Authier.
Weepu, a 71 test cap All Black, now plays for Narbonne in the Pro D2 league. They sit in 10th, while Oyonnax are second.
