Australia made 113 for 7 in their twenty overs - Meg Lanning top scored for the visitors with 30 runs.
Leigh Kasperek was the pick of the White Ferns' bowlers, picking up 4 wickets for 7 runs from just three overs.
New Zealand lost 6 wickets before chasing down the target with 9 balls remaining.
Suzie Bates top scored with 33, and was well supported by Sara McGlashan, who made 22.
