Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will speak to media at the Beehive following a cabinet meeting.
It comes just hours after the PM told Morning Report increasing sanctions for people who assault first responders was a sensible move.
A new bill proposes new, harsher offences for assaulting or injuring police, corrections, ambulance and fire officers with intent - a New Zealand First policy.
"If you're going to assault first responders that's utterly unacceptable in New Zealand so there's going to be some serious consequences for it," Luxon told RNZ on Monday morning.
The press conference also comes a few days after storms and heavy rain caused significant flooding and damage to the Tasman and Nelson regions.
Another wave of wild weather is set to hit the South on Wednesday night, with a second front arriving on Friday.
The PM's stand-up is set to start at 4pm.
