Police have charged a man with two counts of murder after a father and son were killed in a house fire in Auckland.

The 38-year-old man will appear in the Manukau District Court on Friday.

Emergency services responded to the house fire on Murvale Drive, Bucklands Beach about 2.30am on 2 October.

Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Va'aelua earlier said that on arrival emergency services found the home "fully engulfed in flames".

Three people were able to escape the fire, he said.

"I can say the mother of the children and the wife exited the property through the doorway ... The border was based downstairs, but I can say that the third survivor, the boy, had to force his way out of the house."

Jung Sup Lee, 36, and his 11-year-old son Ha-il Lee were found dead inside the home.

On Friday Va'aelua said the information provided by the public and police's CCTV phase aided in the arrest.

"We acknowledge and appreciate the assistance provided by those members of the public whose information was vital to this investigation," he said.

"At this stage our enquiries remain ongoing and further charges cannot be ruled out."

Va'aelua said police remain in contact with the family of the deceased.

"As part of this, we are ensuring that they have support in place."

Police will continue their investigation to determine if anyone else was involved or had knowledge.

"I'd also like to thank our team of detectives, who have worked tirelessly throughout this investigation to bring this case to a close."
