A death which closed the Petone Esplanade in Lower Hutt this morning is not being treated as suspicious.
Hutt Valley area commander Inspector Wade Jennings said the police were called to the scene near Sydney Street about 1.30am on Sunday.
Emergency services have now left the scene, and cordons have been taken down.
The death would be referred to the coroner, police said.
