The Department of Internal affairs is looking to replace its old system for blocking access to child exploitation websites.

It has put out a tender to see what options there are.

A tender document said its existing system is approaching the end of its life.

It said the new system would need to cope with emerging technologies such as advanced end-to-end encryption that can disguise harmful sites.

At any one time, about 7000 websites are on the Internet Watch Foundation list that the filter blocks.

The department said the filter made it more difficult for sexual predators to access material.
