A person has been taken into custody after reports of a gun being shot on a street in the Wairarapa town of Featherston.
Police were called to Fox Street just before 10am on Sunday.
A police spokesperson said no one was injured and they were making enquiries.
A nearby resident told RNZ they had heard some "raised voices" and then one gunshot.
They said that after the noise rang off in the area - within about 10 minutes - five police cars were at the scene.
