A man has been arrested for stealing sleepers from beside the Glenbrook Vintage Railway line, south of Auckland.
Police were called to Glenbrook on 2 May after witnesses saw two men taking the sleepers.
They identified one of the men and executed a search warrant in Pukekohe last week, where they found a number of railway sleepers worth thousands of dollars.
"This type of crime is incredibly dangerous for our community and we are grateful to the vigilant people who called Police and were able to gather as much information as possible, helping lead to this arrest," Waiuku Sergeant Michael Robison said.
A 64-year-old man will appear in the Pukekohe District Court next month charged with theft and trespassing.
Police are still searching for the second person.
