Three men were assaulted in separate "unprovoked attacks" over two days in Christchurch.

A group of four, including three youths, have been arrested and face a series of charges including assault with intent to injure, injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and aggravated robbery.

Detective Sergeant Brent Menzies told RNZ the first incident occurred near Cathedral Squware about 5pm on Monday when a man was assaulted.

The offenders then got onto a bus towards Shirley and assaulted a second person on the bus.

Then, on Tuesday afternoon a member of the public was sitting outside the Christchurch Bus Interchange when they were assaulted.

The first two victims suffered bruising and swelling. However, the third had their wrist broken.

Menzies said two of the alleged offenders were arrested on Wednesday and two on Tuesday.

Police alleged the same group was involved in all three assaults.

"The random, unprovoked, violent nature of it is concerning and it's just not acceptable. We will always take action to hold those responsible to account for it."
