Paramedics have treated 10 people following a house fire in the Christchurch suburb of Mairehau.
Fire crews were called to a two-storey property on Warrington Street about 8am on Tuesday.
Fire and Emergency (FENZ) said firefighters found the ground floor of the property "well ablaze" on arrival.
Three people were taken to Christchurch Hospital, one in a serious condition and two in a moderate condition.
St John said seven others were in a minor condition and were treated at the scene.

Neighbours told an RNZ reporter at the scene they saw smoke coming from the property.
A FENZ spokesperson said the fire had been contained by about 8.30am.
Its response has been scaled back with two crews and two fire investigators remaining at the scene.

Canterbury assistant fire commander Dave Key said the fire had started in a bedroom and was "quickly contained".
"On arrival the crew was informed that all people were accounted for. However the crews carried out an internal search of the property to make sure that no one else was inside," he said.
"One of the bedrooms was quite badly damaged."
Other parts of the property sustained heat and smoke damage, Key said.
Fire investigators were continuing work to determine the cause of the fire.
Key offered a general reminder to homeowners to ensure they always had "working smoke alarms and a good evacuation plan".
