The weather warnings, which covered large streches of New Zealand from Thursday, had all been lifted on Friday night.
Gale force winds saw flights cancelled in Wellington and large swells pounded the coast. In the south, Christchurch experienced one of it's wettest days in history as heavy downpours drenched the region and left communities cut off.
A state of emergency was declared in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula, and Selwyn. Selwyn's state of emergency was cancelled at 3pm Friday, Christchurch's remains in place.
