The man accused of killing police officer Lyn Fleming in Nelson cannot yet be named.

The 32-year-old appeared at the High Court at Wellington this morning by video link from prison.

He entered not guilty pleas in February to six charges, including the murder of Senior Sergeant Lyn Fleming.

Fleming was killed in the early hours of New Year's Day after being struck by a vehicle while she was on foot patrol in the central city.

Her colleague Senior Sergeant Adam Ramsay was critically injured and required surgery.

A third police officer was assessed for concussion. Two members of the public were also injured.

At his last appearance in February, the man pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with reckless disregard for safety and three charges of dangerous driving.

He entered guilty pleas to two charges - driving while disqualified and driving with a blood alcohol level of more than 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood.

On Friday, Justice Karen Grau ordered interim name suppression continue until a court appearance on 27 May to discuss pre-trial matters and whether the accused's name should remain suppressed.

The Crown and defence have filed submissions on a change of venue application for the case.

A provisional trial date has been set for May 2026.
