Police say two people have been arrested after a fight in the Far North that led to a school lockdown and the closure of SH10.

The incident unfolded just before 1pm Thursday on Foreshore Road in Taipā, in Doubtless Bay.

Members of the public reported machetes and possibly a shotgun were involved in the altercation but that has not been confirmed.

One of the men involved was reportedly a local resident in his 60s.

A police spokesperson said nearby Taipā Area School went into lockdown as a precaution while police responded, but that has now been lifted.

Several roads in the area, including the main highway, were cordoned off during the operation by armed police.

The two people allegedly involved were arrested without incident around 1.20pm.
