Hutt Valley police have put out a fresh appeal for information to help locate 28-year-old Thomas Basire, who has been missing since November last year.

He was last seen walking towards Petone on the stop bank near the Ewen Bridge on Railway Ave, on 24 November.

He was wearing a red long-sleeved sweatshirt, black trousers and black sneakers.

Since then, police have conducted several searches around the Hutt River and analysed footage from a search in February, but have not found any further items or locations of interest.

"Police have received a wealth of information from the public regarding the potential whereabouts of Thomas, however, based on follow-up enquiries, we do not believe there have been any confirmed sightings of him since November," they said.

"Over the course of our investigation, police staff have spoken with a number of people who knew Tom, and urge anyone who associated with him who has not yet spoken to Police, to come forward and speak with us."

Investigators are not planning any further searches, but are "keeping an open mind" and often review cases as more information comes to light.

Lower Hutt locals said Basire was a rough sleeper who lived on the fringes of the community.

He and his partner were a common sight in the central city, carrying their possessions in a shopping trolley and living in the park near the Hutt Library, one resident told RNZ.
