Cordons have been lifted in the Auckland suburb of New Lynn as police hunt for four people in the area.

Earlier on Monday, armed police shut down Rata Street from Binsted Road to Great North Road, police said.

Cordons were in place and the road was closed as part of enquiries to locate four offenders who fled from police.

Auckland Transport at the time said that the diversions in place were affecting all traffic, including bus services.

In an update on Thursday night, police said cordons have been taken down but staff were still searching for the group.

They ask anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour in the area to call police immediately.
