The search for a woman who failed to board a flight back to Taupō from Dunedin has been suspended.

Police have been searching areas of Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula area for the 65-year-old Penelope, also known as Penny, who was last seen on 1 March.

The search has been paused with a "evaluation and review" to take place.

Police said they were prepared to resume the search of any areas of interest should any fresh information or credible sightings come to light.

"Police have been in contact with Penny's family and continue to update them and provide them with support."

A CCTV image was released in the days following her disappearance of Penny shortly before she arrived in the Sandfly Bay area that day.

She can be seen wearing a dark coloured hat, green top, tan pants and jandals.
