Two men have appeared in court on murder charges after two unrelated deaths in Northland during the weekend.

In the first incident, police were called to a property on Mangakahia Road, about 5km south of Kaikohe, just after 9am on Saturday.

There they found a man with stab wounds, who died despite the efforts of emergency services.

Police said they took a man at the scene into custody, and spoke to a number of people gathered at the property.

According to court documents, the 44-year-old man, appeared in Kaikohe District Court on Monday charged with murder.

The second alleged murder happened on Saturday evening. A man was found dead after an incident at a Norfolk Street property in the central Whangārei suburb of Regent.

Police said another man arrested at the property was known to the victim.

He was believed related to the deceased.

In that case, a man appeared in the Whangārei District Court on Monday charged with murder.

Scene examinations are being carried out at both properties.

Police earlier appealed to anyone who saw either incident, or had information but had not yet spoken to the investigation team, to make contact.

Police have yet to release the names of the victims.
