State Highway 2 is closed at Clareville in Wairarapa is blocked after a car hit a power pole, police said.
Police said the accident resulted in the pole and lines coming down across the road just north of Carterton.
It happened about 9.15am on Wednesday and no one was injured, they said.
Diversions are in place off the highway and are likely to remain in place until Wednesday afternoon.
Wellington Free Ambulance said one person was treated at the scene but did not require further medical attention.
Meanwhile, a separate crash in Clareville on Wednesday afternoon closed State Highway 2 at the intersection of Somerset Road.
Police said the two vehicle crash was reported at 1.30pm.
Two people were seriously injured and a third sustained moderate injuries, they said.
Detours are in place via Hughes Line and Park Road and motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
