Jetstar dealt with some "technical difficulties" that caused issues at airports for flyers around the world.

In a statement to RNZ, the company said check-in and boarding systems were affected.

"An IT issue that impacted our check-in and boarding systems today has now been fixed. Our operations are returning to normal however there may still be some flow on impacts to flights today.

"We thank customers for their patience and understanding and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Seven News reported thousands of passengers were stranded over the airline's IT issues.

They reported passengers from airports across Australia, Bali and Japan had major delays due to the system outage, with travellers unable to check in.

"Apparently chaos at Christchurch airport," an RNZ reporter said.

In a statement on X, someone posted, "Jetstar nation-wide outage. Nobody able to check in. Who knows when it will get fixed."

Jetstar replied: "We're sorry for the inconvenience caused. We are experiencing some technical difficulties with our system at the moment.

"Our team is working hard to get this fixed as soon as possible so we appreciate your patience in the meantime."
