Police are appealing for information to find seven stolen service medals, which they say hold extreme sentimental and historical value for the owners.

A police spokesperson said the medals were among a variety of items taken during a burglary at a Waihī property overnight on Sunday.

The other items included wedding rings and other personal jewellery, two Stihl chainsaws, a hedge cutter, a cordless drill, and an angle grinder and battery.

Police said they wanted to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the Trig Road North area of the Hauraki town between Saturday evening and Monday afternoon.

Police were appealing for any CCTV or dashcam footage in the area that would assist their investigation in locating the service medals and "holding the alleged offenders to account".

Anyone with information can contact police online at 105.police.govt.nz, clicking "Update Report" or by calling 105.

You can also provide information in person at the Waihī Police Station or anonymously through Crime Stoppers via 0800 555 111.
