People in Auckland and Waikato heading into the coming long weekend should keep their plans flexible as there could be some rain on the way.
MetService Meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane said the first part of the weekend could be on the damp side as a weather system was likely to move across the Auckland region later on Saturday heading into Sunday.
The rain was likely to affect Auckland, Northland and Coromandel, as well as Waikato, she said.
Within that rain band there was also an early indication there could be some thunderstorms, she said.
People should check the forecast closer to the time for further information, she said.
Makgabutlane said anniversary day on Monday was looking reasonably clear for most of the region, although there may be a shower in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, a heavy rain warning that was in place for Tai Rāwhiti Gisborne and Hawke's Bay expired at 8am on Wednesday and MetService said the heaviest rain in those regions had now passed.
