RECAP: No charges over CTV deaths

3:47 pm on 30 November 2017

115 people died in the CTV building when it collapsed in the February 2011 Canterbury earthquake. Today, police confirmed no one will be charged. See how the announcement unfolded.

The CTV deaths accounted for 60 percent of fatalities in the 6.3-magnitude earthquake, which killed 185 people.

The building collapsed in seconds, and fire raged through its ruins soon afterwards.

Today's announcement is the end of a three-year police investigation into the collapse.

An Earthquakes Royal Commission found in 2012 that the building should not have been issued a building permit and the design was deficient in several ways.
