Newshub is set to axe its 7pm current affairs show The Project.
Mediawatch understands the show, which is fronted by Jesse Mulligan, Kanoa Lloyd, and Jeremy Corbett, will finish up at the end of the year. It will be off-air tonight as staff digest the news.
In an email to staff today, Newshub's head of news Sarah Bristow said the move was part of the company's transition to a "digitally-led operating model".
Newshub was trying to transform its newsroom so it was no longer centred around linear broadcasting and was more responsive to "audience needs across the day", her email said.
"The Project has served Newshub and Three incredibly well since its commission back in 2017. However audience behaviour has changed dramatically since that time."
Around 24 staff work on The Project. Newshub would replace the current affairs package with a "redefined news show" in the new year, Bristow's email said.
If that show goes to air, Bristow won't be involved in it for long. She resigned as head of news last week, and is set to finish up in February next year.
