Chicago-based Lauren Michele Jackson is a writer and PhD candidate focused on the intersections of race, gender, music and technology. Her articles have appeared in The Atlantic, Teen Vogue, Complex, and BuzzFeed. She's currently working on a book called White Negroes: Love & Theft in the New Millennium.

Up This Way producer Shaun D Wilson spoke to Lauren to get her perspective on why some memes keep going year after year as well as how and why blackface continues in the digital age.
