From a population of 812,000 in 1985 to over 1.7 million in 2025, the city of Auckland has transformed in only 40 years.
Curator Social History at Auckland Museum Jane Groufsky joined Emile Donovan in Turtle Bay to paint a picture of Auckland's changing landscape from the 1980s to now, including Waiheke Island striking vineyard gold, the lost sex shops and strip clubs of Karangahape Road, and the building of the now-iconic but once-derided Sky Tower.
