Ploughing Champs heading down south for 2029

From Nights, 8:30 pm on 20 May 2025

For the first time, Southland is set host the World Ploughing Championship.

Organisers hope up to thirty thousand ploughing masters and fans could descend on the small rural town of Riversdale for the 74th world event in 2029. It's the fifth time the championship has been held in New Zealand, with the last, with Methven hosting it in 2010.

New Zealand Ploughing Association chairman Scott McKenzie joined Emile Donovan to explain what the event is, how it runs and why Riversdale was chosen to host it.
