After the eight-piece band Derek Jacombs had been playing in collapsed under the weight of “too many egos”, the singer and guitarist decided on a simpler format. He formed a blues trio, Kokomo.
Twenty-five years later, the Tauranga-based group is still together – though the current line-up boasts six players and has broadened its base from rural blues to an eclectic repertoire comprised largely of Jacombs’ original songs.
For this Mixtape, Derek Jacombs talks to Nick Bollinger about his influences and inspirations, and introduces a few of his current favourites.
