The Stranglers: 'I would make my mistakes all over again'

From Music 101, 1:30 pm on 22 February 2025

Formed in 1974, The Stranglers are one of the longest-surviving and successful bands to have originated in the UK punk scene.

They stood out for their musicianship, their often aggressive or confrontational attitude, and their ability to evolve musically over time.

Despite line up changes, including the passing of founding keyboardist Dave Greenfield in 2020, the band has maintained a loyal fan base and remained active for decades.

The Stranglers return to New Zealand next month for the ‘Fifty Years In Black’ anniversary tour.

Bass guitarist and vocalist Jean-Jacques “JJ” Burnel has been there from the start - he spoke to Angie Skerrett for Music 101 from his home in the South of France

The Stranglers NZ Tour Dates:
Auckland’s Powerstation – March 13
Wellington at Meow NuI – March 15
Christchurch, James Hay Theatre – March 16
