Tobacco companies step up advertising for e-cigarette products

An amendment to the Smokefree Environment Act to control how vaping can be advertised is expected to go before Parliament next month.

Local vaping businesses and anti-smoking groups say aggressive marketing campaigns by big tobacco companies are a bid to maximize sales before an expected clampdown on how alternatives to smoking can be advertised.

And it's causing local vaping business who've previously relied on customers coming into their boutique high street stores to respond.

Vapo director Jonathan Devery told RNZ reporter Matthew Theunissen there's no way they can match the advertising budget of global giants.
