Australia's national government has been accused of neglecting remote indigenous communities, particularly those in central and western New South Wales, where Covid-19 is running rampant. An Aboriginal man in Dubbo is believed to be the first Indigenous Australian to die from Covid-19, and the first victim in regional New South Wales. Remote predominantly indigenous communities such as those in the town of Wilcannia are suffering with 70 of the 750 population there have tested positive. And despite a recent uptick, only 6.3 percent of Indigenous people in rural New South Wales are vaccinated - compared to 26 percent for the area's general population. The national government's Indigenous Australians Minister says vaccines were made available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in March. Worldwatch's Max Towle spoke to Labor's shadow minister for Indigenous Australians, Linda Burney.
