Vote on Māori wards in Wellington blocked

From Midday Report, 12:43 pm on 26 August 2020

A move to introduce Māori wards in Wellington has been blocked at a council meeting today.

Councillor Jill Day sought to introduce an amendment to consider the establishment of a Māori ward in Wellington during the Council's review of its voting process.

But it was blocked by councillor Sean Rush, who said it was 'out of scope'.

Māni Dunlop spoke to Wellington councillor, Tamatha Paul, about what happened.
