Compulsory sports reduced to 2 for future Comm Games
The Commonwealth Games look set to have a major overhaul with the number of compulsory sports being cut from 16 to just 2. Under a radical new 'strategic roadmap' designed to preserve the event's future, only athletics and swimming will enjoy protected status. With Games bosses struggling to convince cities to bid for the event, the shake-up is designed to give potential hosts more choice over their programme. Nathan Rarere discussed the plan with New Zealand Olympic Committee chief executive Kereyn Smith, who explained why this new roadmap was needed.
