Gabrielle Huria is Ngāi Tuahuriri and Ngāi Tahu and lives with her whanau at Tuahiwi in North Canterbury. Huria has previously worked in television and radio, was creator and editor of Te Karaka magazine, Public Affairs Manager for Ngāi Tahu and has written several children's books.
Chief Executive of the iwi freshwater organization Te Kura Taka Pini she has also worked in mental health and in 2018 was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Maori and governance.
She is part of a major new exhibition created by Ngāi Tahu with photographer Anne Noble at Dunedin Public Art gallery until October, Unutai e! Unutai e! and has just published her debut collection of poetry Pakiaka with Canterbury University Press.
