The man who brutally murdered 18 year old Ariki Rigby in 2022 has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum non-parole period of 12 years. She was killed following an argument sparked by her wearing a gang member's t-shirt, and her body was found in a burnt out car in Havelock North. Jimmy Heremaia was sentenced in the Napier High Court, alongside Ropine Paul who pleaded guilty to arson and was sentenced to 12 months home detention.
