Two geckos found on a North Canterbury Island are officially the oldest of their kind.
DOC rangers recently came across the female Waitaha geckos during a routine visit to the predator free Motunau Island. They were first tagged in 1967 by the late herpetologist Tony Whitaker, and in more recent years have been given the names Antoinette and Brucy Baby, in honour of the herpatologists who originally found them.
Joining Jesse is DOC biodiversity ranger Allanah Purdie, who spotted one of the two geckos.
