David White's daughter was murdered, and he became a grandparent looking after grandchildren, on a second's notice. Research commissioned for support group Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, is the largest study ever conducted among full-time grandparents and other carers in New Zealand. It surveyed more than 1100 grandparents, great grandparents, and other non-parent caregivers between March and May this year. And showed nearly half the 1300 children were removed from their parents because of drug addiction. The findings are being launched and discussed at the Hear Our Voices: 4th National GRG Caregivers and Members Summit being held today in Auckland. David White is a trustee of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.
