Tributes have been pouring in after former Fiji Pearls captain and coach Unaisi Rokoura died last week.

It's understood she died of a suspected drowning.

Rokoura, 47, represented the Fiji Pearls at two Commonwealth Games and two Netball World Cups as a player. She had two stints as the Pearls' head coach and also coached the Papua New Guinea Pepes from 2015 to 2017.

Netball unions and friends have taken to social media to express their condolences.

Fiji's national netball union said 'Una' was one of Fiji's most accomplished and respected players, having first represented Fiji in netball at 17 years old, and also represented Fiji in hockey, rugby, basketball, and beach volleyball.

Fiji Netball extended its deepest condolences to her father, Tomu Rokoura, her brother Aseri and her sister-in-law Lusi, and her nieces and nephews, her extended family, friends, her former teammates and former coaches and the wider sporting community.

"At the club level, she served as coach and player for CBM Netball Club under the Suva Netball Association, putting a lot of effort into the development of young athletes," the union said.

Fiji Netball president RubyAnn Soravaki said her legacy in Fijian and Pacific sport will live on through the many players and colleagues she influenced.

"Una was not only a remarkable athlete and coach but also a mentor and friend to many," she said.

Fiji's Ministry of Youth and Sports said Una Rokoura "will be deeply missed by the netball community and all those who had the privilege of knowing her".

Netball Australia, Netball New Zealand, Tonga Netball, and the Fijian Drua all paid tribute.

"Heartbreaking news to all who knew you Una," Tonga Netball wrote.

"We extend our prayers for comfort and thoughts with your family and netball family worldwide during this difficult time.

"Rest in God's love Una."

Netball Australia said Rokoura was "an all-round remarkable individual".

"Una made an enduring contribution to netball and inspired many through her leadership, commitment, and passion for the game. She was an integral member of our netball family, devoted to advancing the sport and nurturing its growth for the benefit of all."

The Fiji Men's & Mixed Netball Association wrote that Rokoura was a teammate, a coach, a mentor and a friend.

"While she was a heavily decorated sports figure in Fiji, for many in our space, she was just kind. She made everyone feel seen.

"You loved telling your players, 'let the ball do the work for you' - we will continue to let the ball do the work for us until the final whistle. Moce mada vakalailai, Coach."
